Praised for his “brilliant and richly expressive” voice, Niall Anderson is a Scottish bass with a strong international career in both opera and concert repertoire. He has performed roles such as Neptune (The Tempest), Escamillo (Carmen), Aeneas (Dido and Aeneas), Sprecher (Die Zauberflöte), Frank Maurrant (Street Scene), and Prince Gremin (Eugene Onegin), appearing on stages such as the Opéra National de Paris and the Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari, where he made his debut in 2025.
In the symphonic and sacred repertoire, he has performed works such as Bach’s Passions, the Requiems by Mozart, Fauré, and Brahms, Dvořák’s Stabat Mater, Mendelssohn’s Elijah, and Vaughan Williams’s A Sea Symphony. Passionate about contemporary music, he has premiered works by Thomas Lavoy and Paul Mealor. He is also a frequent performer of the lied repertoire, giving recitals across the UK and Europe.
He trained at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he won the Pavarotti Prize, and has worked with leading figures such as Simone Young, Kent Nagano, Malcolm Martineau, Anne Sofie von Otter, and Sir Simon Keenlyside. Alongside his performing career, he is also dedicated to teaching and is currently a voice professor at the University of Plymouth.
