Sofía Gutiérrez-Tobar was born in El Astillero, Cantabria, in 1999. She was a member of the Escolanía de Astillero from the age of 10 and, after leaving her engineering studies, began her Professional Degree in Voice at the Conservatorio Ataúlfo Argenta in 2019. In 2020, she was admitted to the Escuela Superior de Canto de Madrid, where she studied with professors Juan Lomba and Duncan Gifford. During her training, she has performed the roles of Governess in The Turn of the Screw by Britten, Ascensión in La del Manojo de Rosas by Sorozábal, and Ana Mari in El Caserío by Guridi. In 2025, she completed the Master’s in Performance and Research of the Spanish Vocal Repertoire.

Gutiérrez-Tobar has been awarded numerous prizes; First Prize at the 2023 Intercentros Melómano Competition in the Higher Degree category, First Prize and the Audience Award at the 7th Martín y Soler International Singing Competition (2024), Second Prize and the Opera de Oviedo Trophy at the Ciudad de Logroño International Singing Competition (2024), among others.

She has performed at festivals across Spain, including the ASISA Festival in Villaviciosa de Odón, the International Chamber Music Residencies Festival in Godella, and the Festival de Música Española de Cádiz. Her upcoming engagements include her debut at the Ópera de Oviedo in Hänsel und Gretel by Humperdinck, as well as a performance at the Teatro Monumental in Madrid with the RTVE Orchestra.
