Irene Palazón

Born in Madrid, Spain, soprano Irene Palazón started her musical studies in classical guitar and switched over to voice to complete her bachelor’s degree at the Escuela Superior de Canto de Madrid. She later attended masterclasses by such renown singers as Dolora Zajick, Joyce DiDonato, Montserrat Caballé, Jaume Aragall, Plácido Domingo, Carlos Chausson, Juan Lomba and Teresa Berganza.

A passionate of the Spanish genre Zarzuela, she made her debut singing the main role in the emblematic title La Revoltosa, under the musical direction of maestro Óliver Díaz. Since then she has appeared regularly in the principal roles of La Generala, El barbero de Sevilla, Doña Francisquita, La del Manojo de Rosas, Luisa Fernanda and Los Gavilanes, all throughout Spain as well as Peru, Chile and Costa Rica. She has recorded for the Spanish National Radio (RNE) and for the Fundación Juan March, contributing to the revival of musicologically interesting music.

In the field of opera Ms. Palazón is developing her career and among her repertoire roles are Violetta in La Traviata, Musetta in La Bohème, Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi, Kate Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly and Liù in Turandot.

As a concert soloist she has sung Bach’s Magnificat, Mozart’s Coronation Mass, Carmina Burana by Orff, Stabat Mater by Pergolesi, and Vivaldi’s Gloria.

Future projects include performing the title role in Don Gil de Alcalá at Teatro de la Zarzuela, and performances at Teatro Campoamor singing Donna Anna from the opera Don Giovanni.
